BAYSAR assists the Police by providing trained volunteer ground SAR personnel with the ultimate goal of saving lives.
Established in 1992, the Ontario Search & Rescue Volunteer Association is a provincially recognized, not-for-profit, volunteer based organization that supports the ground SAR teams in Ontario.
BIG NEWS (Feb 2020)!!! BAYSAR has become part of a GSAR (Ground Search and Rescue) team. We still of course do Air Search and Rescue and now we also part of OSARVA.
“On behalf of the Ontario Search and Rescue Volunteer Association, I’d like to extend a warm welcome to you and say congratulations on becoming our newest GSAR team in Ontario. The dedication and enthusiasm of our SAR volunteers in Ontario is unsurpassed, and I am happy to have you join our organization.
Back in September 2021, BAYSAR went through the practical map and compass training of OSARVA. This involved map and compass work and being able to keep a heading using our pacing factor to go a certain distance and make changes in direction to ultimately end up at a destinated location within a few metres. If we did not successfully end up where we were supposed to be then we had to do the exercise over again. It was an absolute blast and for those new or experienced using a map and compass, it was an amazing training exercise.
